The Shanghai HIgh repetitioN rate XFEL and Extreme light facility (SHINE) is a next-generation X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) under construction in Shanghai, China. Launched in 2018, SHINE is based on an 8 GeV continuous-wave (CW) superconducting linac and optimized to support two undulator lines delivering high-brightness XFEL pulses in the first phase.

Following design optimizations, SHINE is expected to cover a photon energy range of 0.2–13 keV together with a 50 PW laser by around 2027, enabling a wide array of applications in ultrafast and high-resolution X-ray science.

The second SHINE Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) Meeting will be held on-site in Shanghai from October 22 to 24, 2025. Building on the first TAC meeting held online in April 2024, this meeting will focus on:

l  Progress in construction and system integration

l  Commissioning strategies and timeline

l  Key engineering milestones achieved

l  Existing technical challenges

l  Early science planning and preparation for first-user experiments

The TAC plays a crucial role in guiding SHINE's development, helping ensure its success as a world-leading XFEL facility.
