Description
Propelled by high-power laser advancements, Laser Plasma Accelerators (LPA) are transitioning from research to engineering, offering gradients thousands of times higher than conventional accelerators. This report details Peking University’s CLAPA team’s progress, highlighting the "Huatuo-1" PW-class proton accelerator. Achieving over 115 MeV, the team overcame stability bottlenecks, paving the way for the world's first laser proton therapy clinical trials in 2026. Scientifically, the team pioneered "Super-FLASH" radiotherapy, which effectively kills tumors while sparing normal tissue, and utilized laser beams to reveal unique material mechanisms under extreme conditions. The report concludes by outlining future applications in nuclear clocks and space exploration, alongside plans for the Beijing Huairou Laser Acceleration Innovation Center.
