Description
This report reviews the R&D status of three hadronic calorimeter options for the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), targeting jet energy and boson mass resolution required by particle flow reconstruction. The Glass-RPC based semi-digital HCAL (SDHCAL) achieves fine 1 cm granularity and evolves toward a 5D T SDHCAL with MRPC for O(100) ps timing to separate overlapping hadronic showers. The plastic scintillator AHCAL 40 layer prototype with 12960 channels has been fully assembled and tested at CERN PS/SPS during 2022 2023. Beam measurements yield a hadron energy resolution of 56.2%/sqrt{E} (+) 2.5%, with machine learning based particle identification implemented. Selected as the baseline, the novel glass scintillator GS HCAL greatly increases the sampling fraction to about 30%. Domestic RD on high density scintillator glasses has delivered qualified tiles validated by radioactive source and cosmic muon measurements. Full simulation predicts single hadron resolution of 29.8%/sqrt{E} (+) 6.5% and boson mass resolution of 3.87 % for H -> gg. Future work covers mass production techniques, common DAQ software and further beam test studies toward a PFA-based high granularity hadronic calorimeter.
