Description
The NSU-NSC Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Center for Collective Use has been established in Novosibirsk. It combines two AMS facilities - the compact MICADAS AMS (manufactured by Ionplus, Switzerland) and the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics (BINP) AMS - as well as two graphite target preparation systems. The Center currently performs radiocarbon measurements for a wide range of scientific and applied studies, including archaeological and geological dating, paleoclimatic and environmental research, as well as biomedical studies. In 2022, the Center successfully participated in the Glasgow International Radiocarbon Intercomparison (GIRI).
The presentation will provide an overview of the current status of the AMS infrastructure in Novosibirsk and the results of long-term MICADAS operation. Particular attention will be given to the long-term stability of standard and blank measurements, as well as to the reproducibility of results for samples prepared using different graphitization systems.
The BINP AMS is currently being upgraded for future multi-isotope measurements. One of the key tasks in advancing multi-isotope AMS is the development of detector systems for rare-ion identification and suppression of isobaric background. In this context, a low-pressure Time Projection Chamber (TPC) with Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) amplification developed by our group will be presented, together with prospects for its application to isobar separation, particularly to the separation of 10B and 10Be.
